There's some good sound advice here but nothing too profound and probably nothing that hasn't already been said somewhere else I didn't feel like I learned a whole lot Still the stories of real women and their success in business was fun to read and often inspiring One small uibble the title irks me Girl's guide Really? This is a book about empowerment and women taking charge of their careers and lives Girl? Yeah so maybe the authors are going for cute fun and lighthearted but using the world girl instead of women gave the title a somewhat demeaning air This could just be me I try to avoid use of the word girl when referring to actual grown women and use ladies or women instead Oh and there is one interview with a man in the book That's not a problem for me The authors felt he had something important to add However his was the only interview in which the authors respond with You lost us I don't get what they didn't get One man speaks and they get all confused? Could be coincidence but they lost a little credibility in my eyes at that moment Not understanding something doesn't make anyone dumb but the way they expressed it here was ineffective They should've said Please clarify or something along those lines Again I'm uibbling My point is it was a poor choice of words I actually rolled my eyes I think I was still chaffed at being referred to as a girl I feel mean now so I'll make a compliment sandwich I like the generous sharing spirit of the book I understand there are several others in this Girl's Guide ugh series After reading this I'd still give them a shot

Hm I think what this book should be entitled is along the lines of how to play career games on a male playing field The using what you've got a brain bit seems to be mostly aimed at figuring out how to compete with the men Now to be fair this book does have some good advice though the content always feels sparse and filled in with friendly fluff but it is really a book about climbing the ladder and how to get over the rungs that are filled up with men As I read endless pieces of advice I found myself feeling exhausted just thinking about what they were saying And often I felt put off by their assessment of what would make a woman or girl as they say it throughout the book be best noticed and fit in appropriately For instance in their list of what constituted good wardrobe were the highest heels you can attractively walk in This is a book about playing the game not being yourself The final part of the title says to make your worklife work for you Meh it's not about making it work for you It's about playing the game The man's game

A bit outdated but still a good foundation book of career advice targeted to young women Had some good workbook type uestions to think about your skills goals and work experience Would be a good complimentary book to the overwhelmingly written by men career and business books

A cute personality to the book but really no new information or anything I hadn't figured out on my own Overall probably not worth the time it took to read it
