William Andrew Johnston was born in 1871 in Pennsylvania He was a career writer and editor, including being the longtime editor of the New York Sunday World He was a co founder with George Delacorte Jr of Dell Publishing Company in 1921, one of the largest magazine publishers He died in 1929.

    I acquired this book through inheritance from my family Some of the people described in the book are relatives of mine, though all were dead long before I was born Mr Johnston recounts anecdotes of life in and around the city of Greensburg, Pennsylvania during the later part of the 19th and into the first part of the 20th Centuries He includes many sketches of people and places to illustrate his stories Mr Johnston dedicated the book to his son, George E Johnston, First Lt in the United States Air Service, who was injured in WW I, and to his sons friend and fellow officer, Henry Clay Thompson who died in the same...
