I have used several of Barefoot Books book CD combinations with my kindergartners and they ve been a hit every time I used this one with a sea life theme and I had have the class singing along before the book was halfway done The illustrations are bright and colorful with large font text, perfect for using as a read a loud Not only is the song a fun, catchy one but it makes for a great introduction to topics related to the ocean and sea life At the back of the book, additional information is I have used several of Barefoot Books book CD combinations with my kindergartners and they ve been a hit every time I used this one with a sea life theme and I had have the class singing along before the book was halfway done The illustrations are bright and colorful with large font text, perfect for using as a read a loud Not only is the song a fun, catchy one but it makes for a great introduction to topics related to the ocean and sea life At the back of the book, additional information is provided about the food chain that is depicted in the song as well as blue holes real holes found at the bottom of the sea A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea makes for both a great learning experience and a delightfully entertaining one

I m embarrassed to say that I completely read the title wrong the first time I saw it And I m a former children s library who has actually sung the song before I did fine singing the verses, but kept giggling during the refrain I m still waiting for my adulthood to kick in Despite my giggles, my five year old son enjoyed this book I was a little worried about the last page this is a food chain book but he still found that illustration funny Maybe the giggles helped, after all Actual I m embarrassed to say that I completely read the title wrong the first time I saw it And I m a former children s library who has actually sung the song before I did fine singing the verses, but kept giggling during the refrain I m still waiting for my adulthood to kick in Despite my giggles, my five year old son enjoyed this book I was a little worried about the last page this is a food chain book but he still found that illustration funny Maybe the giggles helped, after all Actual rating 4.5 stars, but I round up

I didn t love this book but I didn t hate it either I think I just wanted it to befor some reason A solid story about all of these sea animals falling into a hole but what is the hole really Not sure how some kids would react to the what the hole is Very repetitive and sing song would work best with extensions stuff.

A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea is from an old folk song dudes back in the 70s would sing with first graders while strumming their acoustic guitars and not always well The song tells of the underwater world, where yeah there are holes, or grottos, in the ocean floor at the bottom, where the evolutionary chain goes along as it should, with little fish eaten by shark strangled by octopus snagged in seaweed, etc It s interesting how even in the ocean depths, species eat species to survive and b A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea is from an old folk song dudes back in the 70s would sing with first graders while strumming their acoustic guitars and not always well The song tells of the underwater world, where yeah there are holes, or grottos, in the ocean floor at the bottom, where the evolutionary chain goes along as it should, with little fish eaten by shark strangled by octopus snagged in seaweed, etc It s interesting how even in the ocean depths, species eat species to survive and become other species The tune is catchy, as well excuse the pun , and the painted illustrations are cute and whimsical Now kids of the modern age can SEA for themselves what hippie guitar players in kindergarten classes have passed on to kids since the 70s, where kids shared the dream of Ringo Starr, to be under the sea in an octopus garden in the shadeto SEA what s for dinner Three starsIt s in the HOLE and the water is GOOD

This would be a perfect addition to story times on a number of topics holes, ocean life, music, food chain, hide seek, shapes, colors In three words, it is JUST PLAIN FUN Due to limited time and so many choices in my story time on HOLES, I opted to sing and draw the familiar call and response song The Green Grass Grew all Around rather than use this delightful book at least this time around This would be a perfect addition to story times on a number of topics holes, ocean life, music, food chain, hide seek, shapes, colors In three words, it is JUST PLAIN FUN Due to limited time and so many choices in my story time on HOLES, I opted to sing and draw the familiar call and response song The Green Grass Grew all Around rather than use this delightful book at least this time around
