In the midst of the month of love I decided to veer from the path of romance and picked up Honey From a Thorn by Kathy Lang A nearly parallel account of the present day lives of two mother one who gave her child up for adoption and the other who adopted her While both stories are nearly separate from each other they both have similar undertones of emotional struggle and resilience When an illness hit the family is brought together briefly opening up a door of possibility by just a crack to a future where the two worlds may intertwine Most is left to the imaginationThe chapters bounce back and forth between the two women which can be difficult to track at times but it promises to be a nice read The character development is strong and keeps you interested An intriguing twist on the typical adoption story

Honey from a thorn describes the lives of two mothers and how their lives change trying to find the silver lining in the paths they traverse Very apt title and beautifully written I was really enthralled by the way each of their lives' incidents unfolded and all were so close to reality that one could actually feel them tossing in the sea of emotions I would highly recommend this book for a light and sentimental read

Honest insightful and beautifully written Because adoption stories usually center on the child I was intrigued by this new perspectivethe emotional ins and outs from the points of view of both the birth and adoptive mothers of a grown child I was not disappointed These are the kind of characters that stay with you long after the book is finished
