I ve had this book to read for an honest review for a while now, and to be honest, I ve had a hard time finishing it Not because it s a bad book, or one I don t enjoy, but because it s so realistic and raw, it s hard to get through without feeling overwhelmed I m not a very emotional person naturally, and reading a book that brings out the kind of emotions this book extracts, is difficult for me The situation these people find themselves in, their yacht attacked by Somali pirates, is a situat I ve had this book to read for an honest review for a while now, and to be honest, I ve had a hard time finishing it Not because it s a bad book, or one I don t enjoy, but because it s so realistic and raw, it s hard to get through without feeling overwhelmed I m not a very emotional person naturally, and reading a book that brings out the kind of emotions this book extracts, is difficult for me The situation these people find themselves in, their yacht attacked by Somali pirates, is a situation I think anyone would agree is a nightmare The thing that makes it evenfrightening, is it s realistic, and not entirely fictional This situation could very easily be based on a true story, and for a lot of the book, I wondered very seriously as to whether it was inspired by a true story The hell and pain this crew are forced to endure is difficult to read about, but at the same time, connects you to such a solid story, and a real life issue, it s hard to ignore or dislike Helen Beal is now one of the best writers I ve come across Her ability to put this situation into a book for people to casually read, while touching you and making such a sad situation known, was wonderful to experience She is honest, raw, real, and doesn t fluff things to avoid unpleasant or unhappy thoughts While reading this book, you feel as if you re on the Talisman, not only feeling the days tick by in suspended life, but feeling the weight and pressure of being held captive, wondering what the future will look like Overall, I have to say, I did enjoy this book, and I really enjoyed the ending Ms Beal drew out emotions in me I don t often feel, and the fact she wrote something I had to put down and walk away from, is impressive She is a very good writer, and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys realistic fiction, and doesn t mind books with pain and graphic honesty I was given a complimentary eCopy of this book, from the author, to read in exchange for an honest review

Helen J Beal spins a tale that makes you forget your reading a book as it draws you in The main Character Rachel and the crew aboard the Talisman encounter pirates while sailing off to dock the boat in her home port This never has a dull moment and has you guessing what could be coming next You wonder if they ever will be free of their captures and see their loved ones again Helen breathes such life into all the characters is makes it easy to see them and fall in love or hate them I think Helen J Beal spins a tale that makes you forget your reading a book as it draws you in The main Character Rachel and the crew aboard the Talisman encounter pirates while sailing off to dock the boat in her home port This never has a dull moment and has you guessing what could be coming next You wonder if they ever will be free of their captures and see their loved ones again Helen breathes such life into all the characters is makes it easy to see them and fall in love or hate them I think if your looking for a book that has some real life issues in it this one is for you It will make you feel as if your going through this right along with Rachel

A well written contemporary story about the crew of a superyacht whose lives are rudely disrupted when they are hijacked at sea by Somali pirates The narrative follows events as the young crew s lives become increasingly constrained and tensions build between captors and captives The description ranges from moments of poetic beauty the peaceful dugong that lazily visits the stranded boat to moments of physical horror and a perilous climax Despite the fast moving, pacey narrative there is A well written contemporary story about the crew of a superyacht whose lives are rudely disrupted when they are hijacked at sea by Somali pirates The narrative follows events as the young crew s lives become increasingly constrained and tensions build between captors and captives The description ranges from moments of poetic beauty the peaceful dugong that lazily visits the stranded boat to moments of physical horror and a perilous climax Despite the fast moving, pacey narrative there is plenty to provoke thought about the uneven distribution of global power, wealth and privilege Dramatic and thought provoking

Riding a Tiger follows the traumatic experiences of a crew after their yacht is attacked and captured by Somali pirates.Although I didnt like all the characters, or the actions they took, the story was engaging and the pace did not slow down I was a little disappointed at the beginning as I felt the first 3rd was a little unrealistic with many of the actions of the pirates and captives hard to believe However, once the story took a dark turn which was well overdue it really came into it ow Riding a Tiger follows the traumatic experiences of a crew after their yacht is attacked and captured by Somali pirates.Although I didnt like all the characters, or the actions they took, the story was engaging and the pace did not slow down I was a little disappointed at the beginning as I felt the first 3rd was a little unrealistic with many of the actions of the pirates and captives hard to believe However, once the story took a dark turn which was well overdue it really came into it own and I enjoyed the story muchfrom that point on

I received this book as a goodreads giveaway, thank you, and though I thought the book itself was fine, I had a bit of trouble getting past the many editorial errors in it I wasn t sure if this was fiction or non fiction as the book didn t say, so I couldn t decide whether or not to give some leeway for the errors There was a bit of choppiness to it as well which made it harder to follow but the story itself was interesting and I did read it through to the end so all in all an ok book.

This is a good contemporary novel which keeps you interested from the beginning Although a lot of the plot takes place on the hijacked boat, the author doesn t let the pace slip There are some likable characters, and although it got a bit grim in a couple of places for me I m very easily disturbed , all the action and description was really well written Definitely worth a read and I ll look atof her books.
