Alright I love me some Star Trek To those of you trekkies out there, you could easily ascertain someone s outlook on life by the Star Trek they enjoyed most If you loved the original most You are an Old school, fun loving sortIf you loved the Next Generation most You are a forgiving and optimistic intellectualIf you loved Deep Space 9 the most You are committed to ideals, yet cynic towards their endsIf you loved Voyager the most You didn t see the three shows mentioned priorIf you loved Alright I love me some Star Trek To those of you trekkies out there, you could easily ascertain someone s outlook on life by the Star Trek they enjoyed most If you loved the original most You are an Old school, fun loving sortIf you loved the Next Generation most You are a forgiving and optimistic intellectualIf you loved Deep Space 9 the most You are committed to ideals, yet cynic towards their endsIf you loved Voyager the most You didn t see the three shows mentioned priorIf you loved Enterprise the most Not just your mother thinks you are special With this criteria in mind, Trek fans could easily be judged Consider Star Trek The Complete Unauthorized History as a detailed account behind the ups and downs of each of these shows within the franchise This book also delves into the eleven Star Trek movies as well as the comics and animated television show All things Star Trek are here except for the thirty video games and a majority of the novels This brief book is jam PACKED with behind the scene stories of back biting, racism, sexual escapades, and occasional success. There really is a wealth of material here It is also broken up in very concise chunks that are clearly labeled as to the nature of their content, so it is an ideal book for quick reading or bedtime relaxing. While the history is unauthorized it is not lewd or disrespectful Clearly Greenberger has a care for all involved and presents the conflicts between teams of producers and set personnel as evenly as possible We learn about the conflicts of ideals between producers, the infidelity of Roddenberry, money troubles of movies, director deals gone wrong, and fan frenzy driving it all forward It is a fascinating and straight forward read. What keeps it from five stars Two things mar, if barely, this wonderful book First off there are too many pictures of Star Trek toys While fun, I would rather see pictures from behind the scenes or photos of the set filming giant models and actors Secondly, we get too many names of too many faceless producers thrown at us We need pictures of many of these people who are at work behind the curtain in order to keep things straight in our mind s eye While we clearly know the actors and their names, we would really getout of seeing the faces of these workhorses that brought the show to life.Overall this is a wonderful read, especially for someone who grew up with one Star Trek or another

This book took me a long time to read, not because it wasn t spectacular, quite the contrary, because it was spectacular I wanted to savour each of the over 250 pages of pure, unadulterated joy crashing over me in waves I m not going to dwell on the unauthorized part, I understand, there s diehards out there who are going to be, yip, yip, yip, but whatever, the mythology of Trek is bigger than reality, who knows what is real and what had grown through the shrouded Trek hallows, at any rate, This book took me a long time to read, not because it wasn t spectacular, quite the contrary, because it was spectacular I wanted to savour each of the over 250 pages of pure, unadulterated joy crashing over me in waves I m not going to dwell on the unauthorized part, I understand, there s diehards out there who are going to be, yip, yip, yip, but whatever, the mythology of Trek is bigger than reality, who knows what is real and what had grown through the shrouded Trek hallows, at any rate, I m sure they make lots of money from Trek lunchboxes, cereal, action figures, games, costumes, etc., many of which I have purchased myself When I won this from The Goodreads First Reads Program I thought I should pinch myself, really, an over sized hardcover filled with drool inducing Trekkieness It was almost overwhelming I doubt there is anything I would change about this book except to make it longer with evenpictures In fact, the only thing that would have made it better is if it came with a chocolate cover, I know, I know, but a girl can dream This would make any Trek fan blissful I think I ll go and read it again Read long and prosper

beautiful, glossy photos that are fascinating to fans of any star trek series however, there must be a disclaimer that the photos consist of collectibles from all over and memorabilia and such, there are not cast photos or set photos that part was a disappointment this is a book for the fans though, and the photos are a celebration of the fans and how they have kept the Star Trek franchise going i love the book because it unites fans of all the different franchise parts, TNG, the original, D beautiful, glossy photos that are fascinating to fans of any star trek series however, there must be a disclaimer that the photos consist of collectibles from all over and memorabilia and such, there are not cast photos or set photos that part was a disappointment this is a book for the fans though, and the photos are a celebration of the fans and how they have kept the Star Trek franchise going i love the book because it unites fans of all the different franchise parts, TNG, the original, Deep Space Nine, etc this is a great gift for a Trekkie, especially one who either already has tons of memorabilia this creates a comprehensive guide in one place or for one who wants lots of the collectibles, but can t afford them this is a way to have them without having them, if that makes any sense Thanks to Goodreads for furnishing an advance copy in their giveaways and Steven, who listed the giveaway

A really well researched and written book that is a great overview of the nearly 50 year history of Star Trek Once I picked it up, I could not put it down There were many new things I learned while reading this book, includingabout the infamous behind the scenes battles that transpired during the first season of Star Trek The Next Generation The book s only short comings was that it tended to mention the comic book adaptations a little too often Also, many of the people who contributed A really well researched and written book that is a great overview of the nearly 50 year history of Star Trek Once I picked it up, I could not put it down There were many new things I learned while reading this book, includingabout the infamous behind the scenes battles that transpired during the first season of Star Trek The Next Generation The book s only short comings was that it tended to mention the comic book adaptations a little too often Also, many of the people who contributed essays to the book were friends of Greenberger s and not anyone who really played that big of a role in Star Trek I really had little interest in what Mark Altman had to say on how dated The Next Generation is However, these are only minor complaints about a truly terrific book, written with love and passion

I have loved Star Trek for a very long timebut kept my geekiness to myself until I was in college and TNG was on TV DS9 and Voyager continued my love, while Enterprise was a big hot mess I pretend it wasn t made , so this book was an enjoyable behind the scenes look at my obsession Being a fan, I have read other books about the series, but this provided a few new nuggets of info plus some great pictures A great website that I recently discovered with new episodes of the original series I have loved Star Trek for a very long timebut kept my geekiness to myself until I was in college and TNG was on TV DS9 and Voyager continued my love, while Enterprise was a big hot mess I pretend it wasn t made , so this book was an enjoyable behind the scenes look at my obsession Being a fan, I have read other books about the series, but this provided a few new nuggets of info plus some great pictures A great website that I recently discovered with new episodes of the original series is for those of you who would like to continue the five year mission

Not a bad book, although I feel it focuses very strongly on the earlier Trek series, of which much has been written, and gives somewhat short shrift to the later series It also doesn t spend much time on all of the various novels, comics or games that were developed around the franchise, nor does it talk much about the fan efforts Good for what it covers, but I wish it covered .
