Of the nine books I've read this month on the 1862 Confederate invasion of New Mexico this one is most assuredly at the bottom of the pile Freuent confounding of dates and places misstatement of place names glossing over important aspects of the campaign inadeuate maps not a single map of the actual battle at Glorieta Pass and poor or nonexistent proofreading and editing are the most egregious of the issues with this book If you have occasion to read one or two or three books about Sibley's New Mexico campaign this one shouldn't even make your list of possibilities Stick with the classics like Sibley's New Mexico Campaign Blood and Treasure Confederate Empire in the Southwest The Battle of Glorieta Union Victory in the West or Bloody Valverde A Civil War Battle on the Rio Grande February 21 1892
