This is not the dragon I want sigh Clunky action scenes, that slowed down the action were disappointing Zip lining to a skyscraper I want to feel the wind and not have long drawn out sentences that discuss handling the security The action is interrupted by commentary that pulls one out and slows it down The descriptions of new areas are intrusive to the story telling Essentially, a stop and let me tell you about what you are seeing Very staged.First person point of view is less successful This is not the dragon I want sigh Clunky action scenes, that slowed down the action were disappointing Zip lining to a skyscraper I want to feel the wind and not have long drawn out sentences that discuss handling the security The action is interrupted by commentary that pulls one out and slows it down The descriptions of new areas are intrusive to the story telling Essentially, a stop and let me tell you about what you are seeing Very staged.First person point of view is less successful here I found the confidential asides given to be particularly distracting And way too many explanations about what s happening when just telling the story would suffice I suspect this story could be much shorter if they were eliminated and nothing would be lost. Not buying the argument that a single night job cuts into his bang time at nightclubs and that s why he s horny around the dragon Really A thief pulling in the kind of money he does for a job is happy to give up sex for a while to plan because there ll be plenty of relaxing after The jump in focus for Finn is rather incredulous Apparently, whenever Cam touches Finn he gets an instant boner eye roll Coupled with his immature reactions, especially jealousy was off putting He also suffered from a rather inflated sense of self importance Finn s constant mantra of his actions having a determination in the series of cataclysmic events occurring is ridiculous So, for a grown man he s terribly immature. And a villain that approaches mustache twirling in his entrance scene At some point it felt like I was reading a cartoon This led to me pulling the pull at 40% and tagging it DNF.Overall, I liked the story linethan the story telling which drove me away In fact, I was persona non grata for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was my habit of acquiring unique and priceless artifacts that happened to belong to other people A copy was provided to me for a No Glitter Blown review Reviewed for Hearts On Fire Reviews It s DRAGON TIME Feeling like a fantasy fix

What a fantastic addition to the series So far, there were only very few hints and revelations about some of the races who spilled onto planet Earth when the veil lifted and merged human reality with that of the paranormals thirteen years ago But in this book a lot of that history comes to the surface when a clandestine, dangerous enemy turns out to be collecting the means to destroy the merged world as it is now only to reform it into somethingto their liking Full of adventure, dange What a fantastic addition to the series So far, there were only very few hints and revelations about some of the races who spilled onto planet Earth when the veil lifted and merged human reality with that of the paranormals thirteen years ago But in this book a lot of that history comes to the surface when a clandestine, dangerous enemy turns out to be collecting the means to destroy the merged world as it is now only to reform it into somethingto their liking Full of adventure, dangerous missions, and a desperate race to prevent the Shards from being used for the purposes of the nefarious megalomaniac, this novel had me glued to the pages from beginning to end And with the main characters a master thief and an ancient dragon I was one happy reader Finn is the best thief in the world, and since he tells the story But it isn t only his statement The sum of money he is offered for stealing the impossible to obtain Earth Shard fifty million dollars seems to confirm that But when Finn makes it to the collector s apartment nothing is as he was told, the details don t add up, and Finn is left facing a very enraged, ancient golden dragon.Cameron is the Guardian of the Earth Shard, and figures out that both Finn and he have been set up to obscure the real bad guy s intentions and plans He sets out on a journey to warn the other four guardians, because Cameron knows exactly what will happen if their enemy manages to unite the shards And it s not pretty.Finn and Cameron s alliance is an uneasy one in the beginning A human and a dragon have never worked this closely together, and many of their differences in attitude and outlook make things difficult for them But they agree on the objective of their quest, and they are attracted to each other, so they begin to work it out They both have a lot of learning and growing to do, but Finn s tone of voice and his sense of humor make that a very entertaining process Add all the special information and the glorious locations for this paranormal action adventure, and what you have, in my opinion, is a real winner. If you like a mysterious enemy who is out for world domination, if two men who have lots of issues to overcome but need to work together no matter their differences sound intriguing, and if you re looking for a read that is as funny and entertaining as it is suspenseful and emotionally rewarding, then you will probably like this novel as much as I did I think it s the best in the series so far.NOTE This book was provided by Dreamspinner Press for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews

Finn is a world class thief and, if he is to be believed, the best at what he does When offered big money to steal a relic from a very wealthy dignitary, he hesitates for only a second, then plows ahead, sure he will be able to snatch the prize and get out without any difficulties What he does not count on is that the well placed and wealthy owner of the relic is hiding somethingthan just artifacts Cameron Feilong is, in fact, a rare breed of dragon half elf, half dragon a fairy dragon, Finn is a world class thief and, if he is to be believed, the best at what he does When offered big money to steal a relic from a very wealthy dignitary, he hesitates for only a second, then plows ahead, sure he will be able to snatch the prize and get out without any difficulties What he does not count on is that the well placed and wealthy owner of the relic is hiding somethingthan just artifacts Cameron Feilong is, in fact, a rare breed of dragon half elf, half dragon a fairy dragon, and he does not like it when anyone disturbs his lair Unfortunately while Cameron is giving Finn his comeuppance, evil forces are at work, and the item Finn was after is stolen and it isthan just a relic It is one of five shards that, if given into the wrong hands, could mean the destruction of the earth in particular, the human race Now the unlikely duo are in a race against a deadly foe, but will they stop her before time runs out There were some genuinely marvelous moments in Susan Laine s novel Stealing Dragon s Heart, the sixth installment in her Lifting the Veil series The slow building heat between Finn and Cameron was done so well The idea that an ancient fairy dragon would find a mere human thief albeit the world s greatest muchthan a dalliance was well played The sheer heat of the lovemaking scenes between these two was so beautifully done really amazing Also, the race to get to the shards before they fell to the shadow walker s hands kept me on the edge of my seat, particularly when Finn had to fight her and, ultimately, lose I loved Finn s grit and determination his uneasiness with these otherworldly creatures he kept meeting, and his own distaste for the fact that the veil between the mystical world and the human world had been lifted You got the feeling that Finn was not against the lifting, but neither was he comfortable with all the creatures that were unleashed. The plot was riveting and moved rapidly the action was so well choreographed, particularly with each new paranormal introduced I wished we had gotten a deeper glance into Cameron s thoughts and motivations at times, particularly when it came to his sense of duty versus falling in love However, Finn was pure magic and entertaining both funny and frustrating but always well drawn and interesting For me, however, all these wonderful elements were often slowed down to nearly a grinding halt when each new world or shard keeper was introduced The wealth of Chinese lore, the back story of each race and yes, all that poetry at the end of the novel often had my head spinning and left me gnashing my teeth in frustration I wanted the story to continue to move forward and yet every time it seemed to get back in its groove, the author chose to race build and sometimes world build to the point where I lost my train of thought and the intimacy that was building between Finn and Cameron slowed down interminably. There was so much to this novel so many new races of creatures, so many different home fronts and too many new paranormal abilities to keep track of in the end It was a glut of information that needed to be pared down considerably in order for the main story of Cam and Finn s race to save the world to succeed Please don t get me wrong this was still an excellent story, it was simply too much to keep track of at times and that, unfortunately, tempted me to want to skip over passages that did not further develop the plot I persevered, however, and even though the ending was far too drawn out, I still sighed with joy at the conclusion of the story.Stealing Dragon s Heart was a slow building romance surrounded by a fierce, fast moving plotline that occasionally suffered at the hands of overly descriptive passages At the end, however, I still think that fans of Susan Laine s Lifting the Veil series will enjoy this latest installment.Reviewed by Sammy for The Novel Approach Reviewshttp www.thenovelapproachreviews.co

2016 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention Stealing Dragon s Heart by Susan LaineThis was a fun read the world building was imaginative though lightly touched in places fallingheavily on the characters and plot I enjoyed the interplay between Cameron and Finn, and particularly appreciated the time taken to develop the love story and move it through to its natural conclusion, rather than an abrupt ending at the wrap up of the main story arc All in all, a fresh take and well appreciated.
