Everything’s Archie and it’s goooood This is the Free Comic Book Day edition of ALL NEW “Archie” #1 given free in the event of 2016 featuring two stories the main one about Archie and as an extra bonus a sample of “Jughead” #1 The general rating is an average sum of the ratings given to both stories contained in this comic bookCreative TeamsARCHIE #1Rating 5 stars Writer Mark WaidIllustrator Fiona Staples JUGHEAD #1 SAMPLERating 3 stars Writer Chip ZdarskyIllustrator Erica Henderson ARCHIE’S HERE AGAIN AND READY FOR THE NEW MILLENIUM I wish everybody would stop looking for a villain in this Welcome back to Riverdale This is the NEW RiverdaleArchie’s back for a new generation remaining true to its original essenceThe secret of updating a classic in my humble opinion is to understand what really needs to be updated and leaving the rest as it was originally created It’s not that hard to grasp but many creative teams don’t do that Luckily the winning team of Waid and Staples developed a brilliant re introduction of this classic comic book to the audiences of the new millenium Even the story isn’t only “told” with the Waid’s words but also through the Staples’ images Awesome first issueArchie's here Betty's here Veronica too but in the issue #2 I guess Reggie's hereand yep Jughead tooAnd maybe you won’t believe me but the best reimagined character isJugheadJughead Jones is the silent hero the smart one in the shadows fooling everybody’s around him but the audience can see his big heart and his pinpoint wisdomBut don’t get me wrong Archie Andrews is still the main character the one who everybody is looking for the one who everybody is talking about Here the “All New” Archie can be easily compared with Marty McFly just without a Time Machine and a mad scientist Cool guy nice buddy andplays the guitar in the school dance Archie rocks literallyBetty Cooper is still your all american next door girl just adjusting to the concept of the new millenium She knows Archie since they were in the kindergarden and they were the Riverdale High’s Hottest Couple untilThe Lipstick Incident don’t ask me I don’t have the details neither but trust me it was badReggie Mantle from the few that you can get in the first issue he looks like a FonzieDanny Zuko of the Mirror Universe and you can bet that he doesn’t like Archie and he is trying to take a shot on Betty now that she’s availableAnd now our favorite comic book high school gang have their own groupiesEnter Maria Sheila KevinThose three friends are genuinely concerned about the well being of Archie and Betty but maybe their methods aren’t the right ones but don’t worry Jughead is thereDefinitely the ALL NEW Archie is a blast and I am looking up for reading the first TPB WE AIN’T WITHOUT JUGHEAD BEAT OR MAYBE WE SHOULD Jug? Care to mark your legal name here? In the case of this sample of Jughead #1 was a disappointment that I couldn’t believe I wasn’t harder on my rating of this sample just because I found it unfair to the Archie comic to be dragged with a lower general ratingIf you remember I told you that Jughead in the All NEW Archie comic he is easily the best character so my expectative about reading this sample were uite highHowever it’s like you’d be reading the Jughead of the past and worse since the artwork is a crap and that was the nicest way that I could say about that “drawings”Don’t get me wrong the Jughead of the past was charming and funny but we are supposed to be reading a comic book that it’s part of this “ALL NEW Riverdale” reimagined comic book universe so I can’t understand how Jughead can be so different in his own comic book from the way that he is portraited in the Archie main comic bookAnd honestly the artwork is SOOO LAME that I can’t believe that the artist had the cynicism of cashing a paycheck for “drawing” that garbage

I was one of those kids who always begged her mom to get the newest Archie comic in the checkout lane at the grocery store I loved Jughead He now kind of reminds me of Shaggy from Scooby Doo Anyway I was always Team Betty Was anyone actually Team Veronica? Apparently now has Prime Reading and this was available so I had to try it It's very short only 32 pages or so So really it's all set up and there wasn't much plot In this remake Archie and Betty have been together since childhood Friends and then as they got older only they've suddenly broken up At the end there is a teaser that Veronica is moving to townSo there is potential and I am going to check out the next one The illustrations are great colorful and very clean looking Hopefully there is of a story in the next one

It's not easy to update a character like Archie who is outdated almost by definition but Waid Staples somehow pull it off by delivering just the right level of cheesiness it's fun and feels or less contemporary you know but it's still Archie Well done

455 stars I just read this on my train ride home it was so good I've never read any of the Archie Comics before so I was excited to start the 'new' series The art is by Fiona Staples who does the art for Saga So I was really diggin that I'll definitely be checking out the next issue

I've been reading Archie comics since I was a kid They're some of the first comics I started reading Life distracted me and I haven't been reading Archie or any related titles for years but I still think fondly of them When I heard about this reboot and who the creative team would be I got pretty excited Mark Waid has written some awesome stuff Princess Leia's one of my favourite series and Fiona Staples' art is gorgeous Take a closer look at her cover for this issueIt's easy to tell this is Fiona Staples' art Characters look pretty cool and I'm liking the modern appearance to everything And at least now I can understand why ladies would be romantically interested in him He's a good looking guy who plays guitar capable of a long term committed relationship And I have a thing for redheads HelloThe writing is pretty good I'm not blown away I expected because it's a reboot and I would've liked to see risks being taken That said I recognize that it's a first issue and there's a lot of room to improvechange as the series progressesHas Betty always been able to fix cars? Because I love that And I love that Betty and Archie have an established history from childhood I'm curious as to how things will happen when Veronica moves into town I'll be adding this to my pull list

I loved this Really really I LOVED thisI've been reading Archie comics since I was a child It's something that is mindlessly fun like The Simpsons where all characters and their situations end up EXACTLY as it was at the start of the comic It's an endless loop of sameness For that time it was perfect Re reading it now in my adulthood I found it not uite as enjoyable But this was a much needed reboot Usually I say 'leave the classics alone' But Waid and his team have clearly improved on it These timeless characters have been made 'modern' There are cell phones and laptops The traditional characters written with deeper context A uick change here and there to keep the soul of the old with the trappings of the new It was great to read It was great seeing how Archie and the gang would be in this modern world of curious bystanders I especially liked how they've expanded the characters and introduced diverse people This was just an intro to the series I'm EXCITED

In this day of revamps reboots and retro love it's not hard to belive that after 75 years an ARchie reboot was mandatedBut what IS hard to believe is how little they actually needed to change to make this timeless character compelling and relevant for a new generationYes they added the trappings of modern day society Cell phones apps hashtags etc but at it's heart this is still the same Archie we all know and loveWith all credit to the spectacular creative team of Mark Waid and Fiona Staples both of whom are legendary comic icons this comic really sparkles from front cover to back Even if you only have a passing familiarity with Archie comics the characters are still immediately recognizable and their dialogue sparklesA hugely promising start to a much anticipated series; highly recommended
