Please visit wwwreadrantrockandrollcom to see this review and others Also get our favorite recipe from this book Sandwiches More Than You've Ever Wanted to Know about Making and Eating America's Favorite Food is a sandwich making cookbook for middle grade kidsThe book contains recipes for over 50 different sandwiches including wraps subs and bagels It covers what is a sandwich tools used and use of euipment including the oven and panini press The book even explains the differences in knivesOne of my favorite elements in the book is the use of history trivia and facts pertaining to each sandwich There's so much to learn here and in an entertaining way The instructions for each sandwich are easy to follow and include side options for each I especially appreciated the substitutions that are included for different dressings cheeses and condiments Substitutions are even given for people who have allergiesThis is a great book for kids to gain confidence in making meals for themselves All the recipes are easy with only a few possibly needing adult supervision This would be a nice addition to a cookbook collection I'm certainly adding itSo far our favorite is the chicken and waffles sandwich Yummy Thanks to Netgalley for sharing a copy of this book with me 5

This is literally a 100 x 100 x 100 star book because I cannot love it any Seriously I completed it over two sittings for lunch at work indulging in the beautiful artwork the funny and catch side comments and the jam packed history of these sandwiches in a creative and very approachable organization from easy sandwiches to complicated fare that all have a place on the American plate whether they or the elements of the sandwich originated elsewhere I am absolutely going to do a blog post and make EVERY sandwich in this book because it makes it fun easy and I want to capture the images and the essence of the book and share it with the world and I'm not even a serious sandwich fan but I will be after this There were definitely ones I haven't tried and the classics that I might add the twists and spins It brought me back to my diner days when I used to eat a tuna boat toasted hot dog bun with tuna inside but I've never had chicken and waffles all in due time And I love when authors and illustrators are present their biographical information and sharing their favorite sandwich couldn't have been perfect than when the graphic novelists put their middle school class pictures at the end of theirs

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest reviewWell this was sure a lot of fun to read Though I do wonder who would eat these sandwiches as breakfast or lunch Given how some of them have a ton of ingredients I think I would eat them as dinner and only one sandwich because some of them are a full courseI loved how the book is split up in various sections From easy just slap some food and condiments on a sandwich to full cooking meat and other stuff and preparing make your own salads This way you can either build up or you can just start at your levelIt is truly a kids book given all the Ask an adult for help or be sure to have adult permission P Without that added this book can easily also be for adultsThe book is visually very pleasing to the eyes I just love the illustrations The book shows us how to make those sandwiches in a fun way By showing the different layers in a sandwich with hints tips facts but also with alternatives for various things so you can make a sandwich vegetarian or for a meat eaterLater on we also have parts explaining how to make certain things and it is done in the same way as the sandwiches are split upThen there are dares though I am really not going to try some of them while I am for adventurous eating at times I don't want to upset my stomachEach sandwich is introduced with a giant illustration of it with some introduction facts countrystate of origin and much There are also timelines often based on various sandwiches but also on sandwiches in generalAll in all a really beautiful sandwich cookbook with lots of facts information and gorgeous illustrations I would recommend this oneReview first posted at

Holy great booktalk batmanI took this out to local elementary schools in MayJune 2019 and it was the first recipecookbook I'd ever promoted that way Kids really responded to the cover and I introduced it to them by asking if there are food they don't like and talking about this brand new kind of food that is really easy to adjust to the eater's culinary preferences not in those words Honestly I did a lot of talking but you really just have to open the book The graphic design is so smart and accessible even kids who are still building their reading skills want to look at it The sandwiches range from a PBJ to wraps to an ice cream sandwich to a waffle sandwich to a Banh Mi It's inspiring you could totally build an event around having people try the different combinations on pages 15 for example Great design great concept fantastic A few uibbles Thinking of the growing population of gluten free kids I did make a point of mentioning that kids could use other covers like lettuce for many sandwiches it would have been nice if the book had gone there There are a couple of pages that could have done with better editing trivia that's inconsistent that kind of thing But it's pretty minor and would probably only be noticed by the most detail oriented eye They don't cite their sources for the trivia a pretty common problem with books for this age groupOne of the most appealing cookbooks I've ever seen Definitely a recommend
