    4.5 Over a year after reading this, I wish I had written down all my thoughts But I m sure I couldnt because of how overwhelmed I was with this book I am so grateful I found this obscure treasure and I wish this was a lotmainstream Because I read this, I have a soft spot now for the Bangladeshi War of Independence I understand, in a way I never did before, what war does to society How society remains broken by hate and prejudice, even if it is superficially pieced together In Leila I 4.5 Over a year after reading this, I wish I had written down all my thoughts But I m sure I couldnt because of how overwhelmed I was with this book I am so grateful I found this obscure treasure and I wish this was a lotmainstream Because I read this, I have a soft spot now for the Bangladeshi War of Independence I understand, in a way I never did before, what war does to society How society remains broken by hate and prejudice, even if it is superficially pieced together In Leila I found a girl whose heart was my own Her strength is unmatchable Her desire to be free of the shackles her world has put on her was empowering, her success thrilling, and every time she kept being pulled down was heartbreaking Every character in this book is raw and real Every character has something different to teach And every thing that happens in this book is a slap that wakes one up from complicity and ignorance I think if every person in the subcontinent had to read something, it would be this book We need desperately to understand how we have never really lost our history, we are living in historic times and we needthan anything else to wake up from the slumber of hatred we have lost ourselves in and recognize that those we hate are not some other , but our own
