I am completely disappointed What a one dimensional story Not everything is black and white I didn't particularly like any of the characters The mystery was too obvious and the insta love made me want to stop reading it I justI just don't even know what to say I don't want too sound too harsh or anything but the writing wasn't that good and the characters were either brave and perfect or evil and completely flawed I am probably not going to read the seuel Also everyone who's saying that the ending was really intense and cliffhanger y are you for real? It's obvious what's going to happen in the seuel I'm giving it two stars simply because I loved how much Rema loves horses I feel like this book would be pretty great for young readers who are getting into fantasy books age 12 14

TRIGGER WARNING Animal abusecruelty I found the writing style to be easy flowing and intellectual I actually found myself having to look up a word or two during this reading process as I had no idea what it meant in the context of what I was reading Even though I didn't like all of the characters in this story which you aren't meant to obviously I did appreciate all of them Of course you have the villains that are horrible and ruthless to the point that you the reader are creating ways in your mind on how you want them to die Then you have the characters that are pulled into the dark side but you know they can be redeemable and are rooting for them to see the light And lastly you have the heroes that don't know they are the heroes and you are waiting for them to have that revelation moment From my reading progress you can see that I had come across a scene where animal abusecruelty was involved I am not someone that appreciates or welcomes this topic in any scenario To me I don't find it to be justified and it saddens me When I came to the part in the book where I realized that this scene was going to play out I had to look away and actually decide whether or not to continue reading or stop right then and there Ultimately I did decide to finish the book I am happy to note that it wasn't a prolonged scene and I am thankful to the author for that This book does start off on the slower side but that is only to provide context to the reader After a few chapters it begins to build with tension and the action takes off Book one does end on a cliff hanger and should be expected as it is the first book of a trilogy I am interested to see what occurs with these characters and am hoping that those in uestion that I wish nothing but bad things upon will get their just rewards I will say that this book to me is comparable to The Kiss of Deception However fans of that book I think will enjoy The Key a lot This is a definite recommend

45 StarsHere’s a few things you need to know about The Key when you start it It’s a series so yes the book will end on a cliffhanger I’m not spoiling anything from you because that warning was screamed at me prior to reading the bookThis is a YA book so the steam is not there and the romance is mild but plenty good in my opinionThere’s a lot that goes on in the book but it worked for me completelyReading YA fantasy books are something you have to be in the mood for and I was on the hunt for that type of book I was recommended this read and I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up soonerEven though this was a YA read it’s not a “light” YA read it’s kind of like the Hunger Games in the sense people die and there are super villains in the book At times I cringed and was really sad but it worked for the book It made it a story and it made the characters emotional There’s Rema she’s the spitfire of the book and I love her She’s the type of Heroine I want to read in a YA book She’s strong smart and loyal I love that she keeps to her word and she loves her familyWhen you start the book the author does a great job in setting up the story Get ready for a lot of oh my goodness moments At times I had to put the book down and talk about it with my husband mind you he doesn’t have any interests in the books I read but he was a good sport because I had to talk about it with someoneI don’t really want to give away too much of the story because it’s just best to be exposed on your own There’s a war torn country where the poor are SUPER poor and the rich are ruthless and rule all There’s an evil Prince and a handsome good Prince Both show interest in RemaThere’s the power struggle between the rebels and the monarch It’s highly political and highly addictive to read I read this book in one sitting and I was so happy there was two books for me to read because I wasn’t ready for it to be over yet

I can pretty much sum up this book the following way DAMNYOUCLIFFHANGERSBUTHOLYHELLTHATWASAMAZEBALLS I went into this book knowing it was outside of my typical genre I honestly anticipated a bit of a fluffy Romeo and Juliet esue type of read I couldn't have been wrong Jennifer Anne Davis absolutely blew me away with The Key The character development was phenomenal the plot was an absolute page turner and the heroine was probably one of my ALL TIME favorites It is typically very hard for me to be taken by a female lead In fact they normally drive me bat shit crazy Rema however was all kinds of sassy independent and strong The hero was über swoon worthy as every hero should be and the villains were absolutely awful human beings I wanted to storm the castle and kick their shins Jennifer did leave us hanging off of a huge ass cliff but I simply cannot devour a book the way I devoured The Key and not give it 5 stars Rest assured the wait for book two will not be long Until then I suggest we gather a mob with pitch forks and demand Jennifer to put those typing fingers to work Must Have Book Two Now Absolutely brilliant fresh engaging read 5 stars

The Key was an amazing book I was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire timeThis review will have a ton of spoilers so don't read it if you haven't read the book yetview spoilerI basically shipped the hell out of Rema and Darmik from the moment they met The prologue sucked my soul into this book and I'm so freaking upset with the ending I'M SERIOUSLY SALTY AF RIGHT NOW GUYSOkay so Rema is the lost princess Amer Smart that the guy who kept her safe switched her name around was a smart dude However she stills get captured I guess from the Prince who is a real douche bag God I hated the prince and the king SO FUCKING MUCH I basically plotted their deaths from the first moment I met them Then there's Darmik who is related to the both of them I felt so bad for him because he's basically treated like shit from his own family Like he's lower than dirt AGAIN I hated his family so muchThe romance between Rema and Darmik was everything to me I was so mad when he realized who she was and he left her He was mad at himself and then took a beating from his dad Meanwhile she's going to be executed for being alive basically Which leads to the most salty and savage kind of ending everI was so mad that Darmik did NOTHING to help save her Nope he watched from somewhere far away while she fell to her death I really hope that she didn't die and that Jennifer just wanted to stab me in the heart with hate and feelings I'm so emotional I think I need wine to cope with what just happened right now hide spoiler

DNF at 60% Okay I really tried to finish reading this book There were so many great reviews but this didn't work out for me I really hoped it would but there were so many tropes and cliches I couldn't handle So I really don't want to be harsh while reviewing this but at the same time I must explain few reasons why this didn't work out for me ✖ The inta love is so instant that the moment they looked at each other they were in love They barely spoke and directly afterward the MC's thoughts went back to their meeting repeatedly ✖ The main character's 'braveness' went overboard I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't read this book yet so I have to explain this carefully The MC was supposedly brave but during a specific part her braveness was of stupidity Her actions were foolish and she acted like a child There is a difference between being brave and knowing the conseuences and being stupid and reckless In one scene the heroine basically jumped from a high cliff to a river when she was a child It was stated that she didn't even check whether the water was deep or not and only wished that she wouldn't get hurt Now this isn't the situation I'm talking about here Its just and example✖ I didn't care about the heroine but that may only be me ✖ There were many tropes such as ✖ Forced marriage ✖ The unloved childhood friend ✖ I don't want marriage because I'm different ✖ insta love ✖ The lost princess ✖ The psycho evil king ✖ Ok there were many so I'll stop hereThere were honestly great things I found in this book such as ✔ The writing style is very engaging When I started reading this I just wanted to try reading a fantasy novel but the book surprised me by how it was easy to get through If it wasn't for the heroine I might've enjoyed this book ✔ The politics was enjoyable I really liked Darmik's side How he was sympathetic and nice to people but when it came to making decisions for the kingdom he became strict The politics was the strong part in this book but it wasn't the big part so I couldn't complete reading it for these few scenes █ █ █ █ █ █ █I might've not enjoyed this as much as others did so yes this is my opinion There are many readers who loved this book and gave it five stars which only proves that this book might've not worked for me but maybe it will for others Enjoy

Alright I'm confused This book was a star rating roller coaster It started at a solid 3 stars I was enjoying the plot it was moving along at a decent pace and then things really started to hit the ceiling I was 4 stars all the wayuntil the endingPersonally and this might just be me but ending during the climax feels like such a wrong thing to do Secrets were being discovered and it was building up and then it all came crashing down with that to be continuedShameOther than that I really enjoyed this book It was well written the plot and its mysteries were enjoyable It was a constant when is he going to find out what's his reaction going to be sort of thing There were parts of the romance that I didn't enjoy I felt like Darmik and Rema were moving a little too fast Rema's best friend was murdered and now she was engaged to Darmik's brother Lennek who is evil and somehow they had time to fall in love Eh I think a slow burn would have been better I also wanted from Lennek Why is he so evil to his brother? Why does he feel he has to constantly prove his power and position? As crown prince first in line to the throne he shouldn't have to But he does More than likely I'll finish this series but I'm undecided I've put them on my TBR shelf but we'll see

45 Stars I loved THE KEY so much I was actually very surprised by how much I enjoyed it Not because it didn't sound fantastic because it did but I kept putting it off for years thinking it was one of those books that sounded fantastic but turn out to be a load of junk But I am so happy to say that was NOT the case here with THE KEY Not at all the complete opposite to be exactThe world building is what captivated me from the very beginning I love a thick plotted world with evil kings and a kingdom of the verge of self destruction And then you throw in conspiracies and political intrigue with a forbidden romance and a hot love interest and a determined heroine and you have one hell of a book And that's exactly what I found here So I was instantly drawn into this world and the outcome of their situation Davis created a thrilling plot to go along with her epic world building BRAVO Jennifer Davis BRAVOThe characters were just as amazing as the world building The story was told in dual POV's with Rema and her love interest Prince Darmik as the main characters And they were both developed and fun characters for their own reasons Rema was the mystery of the novel and though we knew her true identity she didn't and that made for a thrilling ride to watch her discover all the little hints along the way to revealing the truth behind it all She was spunky and I really liked that about Rema's character She wasn't uickly knocked down and I don't mean physically I mean mentally She could take whatever was thrown at her and turn it into not as bad of a situation as it really was She was also smart and tough even though she really didn't know how to physically fight she still wouldn't let that defer her from standing up for herself She was just a well rounded awesome protagonist that I just lovedAnd Darmik the other main POV was so dam hot He drove me crazy when it was his POV I loved him to pieces for many reasons And though he was doing the evil kings bidding's he knew it was wrong and did not take pleasure like his brother the Crown Prince did He was strong skilled loyal determined and viciously lethal when he need to be Yet he was gentle sweet compassionate and just wanted the best thing for his people And he was slowly starting to see that it was not his father and brother that the people needed I thought Rema and Darmik were awesome protagonist and together they would be unstoppable THE PLOT SEVENTEEN YEARS IN THE PAST Greenwood Island is ruled by a just king and ueen with two sons and one daughter All is well in the land citizens are feed and treated fairly and though their not the riches kingdom their content and happy with their Monarch and the lives they provideBut all that changes when Emperor Hamen ruler of Emperion on the mainlands wants to open up trade with Greenwood Island But the king and ueen of Greenwood refuse the Emperor for their own good reasons and thus sentenced Greenwood to their deaths at the hands of the Emperion army An army vastly larger and highly skilled then Greenwood's soldiers And on one eerie blood filled night the Emperion army invades Greenwood Island and slaughtered the Royal family killing anyone who gets in their way Royals civilians guards woman children babies anyone who posed a threat was executed on site But the Commander of Greenwood Island manged to slip the castle undetected taking with him the only remaining heir to the Greenwood throneSo hiding within Greenwood Island the legitimate heir grows strong and healthy everyday and is unknowingly the only hope Greenwood has of ridding itself of the false royal family taking them from power and saving the people from a horrifying life or death And this is how their story begins SEVENTEEN YEARS LATER Rema is just a commoner in a kingdom ruled by brutality at the hands of a viscus king and his two sons She has been shielded from the harsh reality of what really lies in the kingdom She's content with raising horses and thrillingly riding them with her best friend Bren Until one day all that changes and Rema is uickly pulled into a viscus game she knows nothing about and becomes the pawn in her ultimate downfallWhile out on one of her runs through the forest Rema meets Darmik one of the kings sons and commander of the kings lethal army And what she sees in him is not a brutal arrogant blood thirsty prince like she thought him to be but as a sweet caring and very handsome man who seems to want the best for his people but is forced by the king to do his evil bidding's But the other prince Crown Prince Lennek is the one she has to worry about He is the opposite of Prince Darmik He's evil conning vindictive and is very uick to shed blood if it pleases him And Rema has just unknowingly caught his eye and sealed her fateRema is forced to marry the vile Prince Lennek becoming the princess and future ueen of Greenwood Island Something Rema would rather die then become But with no other option if she wants to save her family from a torturous death at the hands of Prince Lennek she has to obey and look pleased about it The kingdom of Greenwood Island is on the brink of civil war With the king rapidly increasing taxes and uick to kill anyone he pleases and the people uickly starving from the increase and not having the means to support themselves death has become a for sure thing on Greenwood Island But their are some people who are fighting for peace and freedom fighting for a new way of life fighting to overthrow the king and his sons and they claim the have just the key to do it The Key is coming That's the whispers in the streets the hope that swells in peoples hearts that's the words the rebels spread The rebels are fiercely rousing the people to stand up for themselves and fight for their freedom But with little hope of defeating the kings army the people are uickly knocked down But what if The Key to their salvation has been right in front of them all along? And what if their really is a rebel force that may just be strong enough to stand up to the kings army? What then?Doesn't that sound fantastic? It was it truly was I've never read anything by Davis but she's uickly climbing the ladder into my favorite authors THE KEY was an amazing start to an absolutely wonderful series that I'm actually almost finished reading and loving While writing this review I'm already reading the third and final book in this series THE KEY was just that good that I instantly had to pick up it's seuel and see what happened after that terrifyingly wonderful cliffhanger Davis threw at us with full force And book two and three is just as good if not better then THE KEY Overall I am highly satisfied with this book and the way it all played out Davis has a way to grab the reader from the very beginning and keep hold until the very end If you enjoy a spunky uick witted main character with a hot love interest and a kingdom on the brink of civil war with evil kings and princes and a great drama with plenty of action and adventure then THE KEY is definitely one book you should check out
