It has eight short stories and I enjoyed some of themI recognized I do not like his description of women ちょっと癪に障るんだよなあ。The women characters in his story seem very similar and he doesn’t seem to have an idea that he updates themI like “Shinagawa Zarua monkey at Shinagawa” and “Poems about Yakulto Swallows”his favourite baseball team He wrote that “it is important getting to used to losing” in “Poems about Yakulto” I like this thought We should enjoy the moment whether you win or lose And I just looked a result of today’s Yakult Swallows match They lost

It seems that author's style of short stories has been changed from his early works That's why I like them than his long novels

I’ve just read the latest work of Murakami Haruki It is a collection of 8 short stories entitled “First person Singular” my translation First of all I found the title intriguing partly because it is catchy as a book title and at the same time it reminded me of “I” novels from which he seemed to have tried to keep distance deliberatelyEach story unfolds around its core motif which Murakami has been cherishing such as the Beatles Charlie Parker and Yakult Swallows The protagonists are young from 18 35 as usual You can find his recurrent themes all over the stories The attention grabbing characters are Shinagawa Monkey who speaks Japanese and falls in love with humans and “the ugliest woman” His sentences are well crafted and his distinctive voice and plot twists make the stories page turnersHaving read the latest work of his I realized again he is a real craftsman He has crafted his words and stories over the past 40 years which is simply superb He is adept at depicting the feelings when people had when they were in their “young and vulnerable years”I am still a Murakami freak Harukist Japanese Literature Discussion ClassesDiscovering Japanese Literature in English Join our global online courseFor details please go to the link in my profile Open to anybody who is interested in Japanese culture or literature Conducted entirely in English Share what you feel about the work with participants from all over the world In each class which is held once a week we read and discuss one short story written by Japanese authorsIf you are interested in my courses just DM me
