Wow its a little freaky I was thinking to myself last week that it has been a while since I read one of Ms Dailey's book so needless to say when this showed up in my uier I was ecstatic and reuested it and am happy that I did Joe had gotten hurt on the job and that is where Sarah comes in since she is at her uncle because she wants to follow his footstep and become a doctor While taking care of him she falls in love but Joe doesn't feel that he is good enough and leaves Years later he had what he always wanted a wife and child way different than all those years ago

The book is a western and from what appears to be a spin off of a larger series irst book read in this series I have not previously read about the Calders I received this from Netgalley thank you The book takes off from the beginning and does a good job following Joe and Sarah The relationship develops and is interesting to see the interactions Joe Dollarhide is nearly 16 when readers meet him on a cattle drive from Texas headed to Montana He is left for dead after a freak thunderstorm and vows vengeance against Bentsen Calder who made the decision not to check thoroughly for him He falls into bad company later and is shot Taken to aspiring doctor Sarah Foxworth in Ogallala Nebraska he recovers and falls in love However the course of true love never does run smoothly and Joe and Sarah are separated by circumstances The plot was well thought out and developed and kept me engaged the entire time The timeline was what I enjoyed most Because this book followed Joe from 16 to 28 years old nothing about the plot was rushed Not usually a Western book reader and this was engaging and well laid out I enjoyed Joe's time learning the training of the stallions and the gentle nature approach versus the breaking Nice book to read during these troubling times I did enjoy it and want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to provide an honest review of this ARC

Joe Dollarhide has dreams of owning his own ranch someday but to do that he needs money and experience He joins a cattle drive for Benteen Calder from Texas to Montana After a stampede leaves Joe lost and severely injured Benteen orders his crew to abandon the search leaving Joe for dead Sarah has travelled to Montana to live with her uncle hoping to become a doctor like him In a chance reunion with the man who once rescued her she nurses Joe back to health and falls in love with him But Joe knows as a poor outlaw he'll only hold her back from her dreams so he leaves to pursue his own fortune But years later when Joe owns a ranch of his own with his wife and young son Sarah shows up in his town with a boy that looks suspiciously just like himWestern romance at its finest I liked the part where Joe learns to gentle wild horses and turns his dreams into a thriving horse ranch This is a spinoff of her earlier Calder series but as I've never read those before I can say it reads as a stand alone I look forward to the rest of the series possibly featuring Joe's competitive sonsThank you to Janet Dailey and Kensington books for the opportunity to read this book I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own

Though I wonder about the need for expanding the Calder Saga with other series set in the various eras of the original books yes I see this as the beginning of a series or series that will also intersect with Webb and Chase I have to admit that like the New Americana series it is good to see the classic Janet Dailey returnJoe Dollarhide is nearly 16 when readers meet him on a cattle drive from Texas headed to Montana He is left for dead after a freak thunderstorm and vows vengeance against Bentsen Calder who made the decision not to check thoroughly for him He falls into bad company later and is shot Taken to aspiring doctor Sarah Foxworth in Ogallala Nebraska he recovers and falls in love However the course of true love never does run smoothly and Joe and Sarah are separated by circumstancesIn true Dailey fashion we get not only romance but an historical setting as well that will remind readers why the Calder novels are still beloved nearly 40 years after THIS CALDER SKY still the best of the entire saga in my opinion was first publishedI received an eARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley for which I thank them All opinions are mine

Finally a book I often could not put down This is like the Janet Dailey I knew and loved The writing is excellent and the storytelling is greatIf I had a complaint it would be that the ending is somewhat unsatisfactory and even a bit comical considering the all consuming urge for revenge that Joe had and how it affected his often poor life decisions I would also have preferred a convincing romance instead of love after a few daysBut having said all that this is the type of writing style that I enjoy and I hope to see from this writer with some refinements with the storylines perhaps The dialogue flows very well and the characters are convincingContent Bedroom scene and resulting child out of wedlock Description of rape attempt

I obtained a complimentary copy of Calder Brand in exchange for an honest review This was a one of the best books I've read in a long time The plot was well thought out and developed and kept me engaged the entire time The timeline was what I enjoyed most Because this book followed Joe from 16 to 28 years old nothing about the plot was rushed It was refreshing to read about Joe and Sarah's real life struggles just to survive and their journey to seeking their happily ever after This was everything I could hope for in a good historical romance and I would absolutely recommend this book to friends and family

I believe this book is a spin off of an earlier series by Janet Dailey but this book can be read as a stand alone without having read that series Set in the late 1800s through this book we are given a glimpse of how tough life on a cattle drive is and how determination can lead a person to pursuing their dreams I am always impressed by a book that draws me in and won’t let go and this story definitely did that The writer also does a very good job of describing life during that period of time I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher All opinions expressed are my own
