In the introduction the editor claimed that the reader s views would be changed by the end of the book I was skeptical, but decided to read on At first I was not so sure that I agreed with that a lot of what Tozer said I had to actually think about itto figure out that he was takingof a black and white view.I really loved that he ended each chapter with a prayer It was a really good example for incorporating the chapter into something I could understand better. The read wasn t as In the introduction the editor claimed that the reader s views would be changed by the end of the book I was skeptical, but decided to read on At first I was not so sure that I agreed with that a lot of what Tozer said I had to actually think about itto figure out that he was takingof a black and white view.I really loved that he ended each chapter with a prayer It was a really good example for incorporating the chapter into something I could understand better. The read wasn t as entertaining as I would have hoped it to be, but like the introduction said it did change the way I look at worship I guess you can say that it helped mature what I already knew of worship. In recommending this book I think that you could start at the introduction, read chapter 14, and then read chapters 1 14

Good basic treatment and adviceTozer usually, and this seems to be true in this book, writes either to those who have recently been born from above or for those who s faith has waxed cold throughout time In this book the author argues for the centrality of worship, not as an event, but as a life style, which is a must for every child of God In the last chapter he shares some practices which have been helpful for him while acknowledging that each person should have their own experience and deal Good basic treatment and adviceTozer usually, and this seems to be true in this book, writes either to those who have recently been born from above or for those who s faith has waxed cold throughout time In this book the author argues for the centrality of worship, not as an event, but as a life style, which is a must for every child of God In the last chapter he shares some practices which have been helpful for him while acknowledging that each person should have their own experience and dealings

I wanted to read another of Tozer s books after having read The Pursuit of God, in which he describes a personal relationship with God grows out of an unquenchable desire to know God Tozer s words still resonate and the prayers at the end of those chapters brought me to tears The Purpose of Man, however, hasof a handbook y tone or a how to It lacks nuance and feels a bit preachy no pun intended I plan to readof his works, though.

For the most part I really liked this book, and it deepened my understanding of worship, but I do have some mixed feelings about it The Purpose of Man is the second book I ve read by A.W Tozer, after The Pursuit of God which I LOVED and became an instant favorite so maybe my expectations were set too high The Purpose of Man is about how as human beings we were designed to worship and glorify God Tozer provides a lot to think about, and he goes into detail on what worship is is not The lan For the most part I really liked this book, and it deepened my understanding of worship, but I do have some mixed feelings about it The Purpose of Man is the second book I ve read by A.W Tozer, after The Pursuit of God which I LOVED and became an instant favorite so maybe my expectations were set too high The Purpose of Man is about how as human beings we were designed to worship and glorify God Tozer provides a lot to think about, and he goes into detail on what worship is is not The language and writing itself is worshipful, in a way that provokes the heart of the reader to worship, as well The reason I have mixed feelings on this book is because Tozer kept returning to the idea that all our views beliefs need to be right before God will accept our worship, which from my perspective, at least feels contrary to the gospel humans are fallible only Jesus could get everything right. That said, it is still well, well worth the read It really got me thinking, and I d recommend it to anyone looking to deepen their faith and understanding

Meaty, tangible, and practical, this portion of Tozer s writing is as profound and necessary as all of his exhortations are for the transparent Christian who longs for a deep connection with the Creator Presenting clear steps to take for a disciplined spiritual walk toward growth in Christ, this book is one that should be studied and savored along the road to mature Christianity.
