I did not consider this installment as good as The Runaway Princess from the beginning Meg seemed way younger than her age, and there were far too many characters tagging along on the quest But the extras are dumped in short order, bringing the character count down to areasonable number, and just when I decided that there were still too many tag alongs, the Author splits them up, creating two separate, and equally enjoyable, adventures The journey s pick up from that point, and I could I did not consider this installment as good as The Runaway Princess from the beginning Meg seemed way younger than her age, and there were far too many characters tagging along on the quest But the extras are dumped in short order, bringing the character count down to areasonable number, and just when I decided that there were still too many tag alongs, the Author splits them up, creating two separate, and equally enjoyable, adventures The journey s pick up from that point, and I could kick back and enjoy the humor I had grown accustomed to in The Runaway Princess. As in the former, the Author pokes fun at a boatload of fairy tales, but in this one she pokes at a few lesser known tales that only a fairy tale connoisseur might recognize she throws in Rapunzel and Jack and the Beanstalk for familiarity, so other Readers don t feel left out The Runaway Dragon still isn t as good as The Runaway Princess, but it picks up a lot towards the end, and ultimately does not disappoint

I love the way Kate Coombs plays with traditional fairy tale elements, weaving them throughout the story and most often turning them on their heads.I found that I enjoyed this second bookthan I enjoyed the first installment I love the characterization and it was fun to get to know Lex the Wizard a better The story was engaging and fun, a fairly light hearted read It was well worth the read, and I would certainly read it again and recommend it

Pretty fluffy Not enough about the dragon, given the title rather, it s another story about Meg co on a quest Only one new friend So, point off for insufficient originality But point on for the note at the end discussing a bit about the history of fairy tales nothing new to me, but good for kids just starting to learn the depths of the genre Pretty fluffy Not enough about the dragon, given the title rather, it s another story about Meg co on a quest Only one new friend So, point off for insufficient originality But point on for the note at the end discussing a bit about the history of fairy tales nothing new to me, but good for kids just starting to learn the depths of the genre

I really liked this one It was pretty on par with its predecessor, The Runaway Princess Princess Meg has gumption and this book kept me guessing I liked the Grimm fairy tale references and the gentle way it laughs at old fairy tales ants aren t the most grateful creatures in the world A host of characters from the first book reappear along with some fun, new ones Spinach was pretty awesome I am not sure I always liked where the old characters went, though view spoiler Cam seemed pret I really liked this one It was pretty on par with its predecessor, The Runaway Princess Princess Meg has gumption and this book kept me guessing I liked the Grimm fairy tale references and the gentle way it laughs at old fairy tales ants aren t the most grateful creatures in the world A host of characters from the first book reappear along with some fun, new ones Spinach was pretty awesome I am not sure I always liked where the old characters went, though view spoiler Cam seemed pretty lame compared to the previous book And Bain.well, I ll talk about him at the bottom hide spoiler The writing is still upbeat and enjoyable and doesn t skip around quite as much I loved Lex Redheads.we re awesome Overall, another win.I didn t quite like the romance , however view spoiler When I started this book, I was firmly in the Team Bain camp He was awesome By the time I finishedI felt meh about Bain Maybe even a tad annoyed I get that a prince didn t need to save her, she saved herself with help from friends and what not, but did he have to be so completely useless When I put on my happily ever after cap, I just can t picture their future Bain is too flighty Meg is just kind of enad They really don t know much about each other I almost prefer the vague, random ending with the sword in the last book In fact, was I alone in thinking Meg should absolutely end up with Lex Lex would be so much better than Bain hide spoiler

Meg and all her friends from The Runaway Princessare back in this sequel that is just as much fun to read as its predecessor This time Meg s dragon, Laddy, has run off and she must go on a quest to find him The quest is fully complete with faithful companions, a mysterious old guide, a journey through an enchanted forest, a run in with an irritated giant and a conflict with an evil sorceress And plenty of lessons to learn Cam discovers that of all the vegetables Spinach just might be the bes Meg and all her friends from The Runaway Princessare back in this sequel that is just as much fun to read as its predecessor This time Meg s dragon, Laddy, has run off and she must go on a quest to find him The quest is fully complete with faithful companions, a mysterious old guide, a journey through an enchanted forest, a run in with an irritated giant and a conflict with an evil sorceress And plenty of lessons to learn Cam discovers that of all the vegetables Spinach just might be the best Lex discovers that there is such a thing as too much black Nort and Dilly discover that constant bickering might just be a mask for something else Bain discovers that you can t always steal what you want And Meg discovers that quests don t always turn out how you expected Again, Kate Coombs takes old fantasy tropes and has a great deal of fun with them while spinning a witty and delightful tale at the same time

Great follow up to the Runaway Princess, and does a very nice job spicing up the story with lots of fairy tale elements I particularly like the dragon, but the evil sorceress and the giant are pretty cool too.

Another fun adventure I love that not only is Meg determined to go on a quest, that quest is inspired by her need to repair her neglected relationship with Laddy I m happy to see her rely on her friends when she needs to, but also take a stand and believe in herself when necessary And yay Bain I was also moderately annoyed with him, but to be fair, it s pretty much impossible to fight off magic if you re a non magical person Even Lex had trouble at first.

An enjoyable follow up to The Runaway Princess and another good read aloud The 7 year old found the magical duels hilarious I enjoyed the fairy tale references, especially as we ve been talking about variations on those old narratives lately.

Princess Meg is itching for an adventure, and the advent of her dragon Laddy running away and wreaking some mild havoc in the process is just the excuse to go on a quest Of course, her father and mother insist she do things properly this time, like wearing dresses befitting a princess and having an escort of armed guard, etc, etc, etc Meg s friends Dilly, Cam, Lex, and Nort get to come along, but the captain of the guard seems intent on making sure that Meg is extremely safe which is no fun Princess Meg is itching for an adventure, and the advent of her dragon Laddy running away and wreaking some mild havoc in the process is just the excuse to go on a quest Of course, her father and mother insist she do things properly this time, like wearing dresses befitting a princess and having an escort of armed guard, etc, etc, etc Meg s friends Dilly, Cam, Lex, and Nort get to come along, but the captain of the guard seems intent on making sure that Meg is extremely safe which is no fun at all And then Meg discovers and destroys a weapon the guardsmen brought along to shoot Laddy with, and the captain of the guard practically puts her on lock down Meg starts despairing of ever having any adventures on this quest But then Lex s trace on Laddy leads them to an enchanted forest where very curious things start happening, and a white stag frees Meg up to lead the quest the way she wants Well, somewhat A vengeful giant makes thingstricky by kidnapping half the party and holding them hostage until Meg and Lex can recover something a thief took from the giant Both the search for Laddy and the thief lead them to a quaint village by the sea that has been recently abandoned, thanks to the appearance of an evil sorceress Meg and Lex must outwit the sorceress to have any hope of fulfilling either quest. This is a fun sequel to Runaway Princess showing how both Princess Meg and her dragon are growing up, but also taking the reader on a fun adventure all over the place and mixing in elements of various fairy tales in unconventional ways.Notes on content No language issues One small kiss and no other sexual content There is one battle in the book but all the violence is non lethal Mostly involving hitting with frying pans and knocking people out
