Michael Jackson was one of the most brilliant men I have ever known in my entire life He was certainly not the Wacko Jacko portrayed in the media, and it s unfortunate that he was so unfairly described He was so thoughtful and decisive as a client, I m really thrilled to have been his real estate broker He is the only celebrity client that really knew exactly what he wanted where, when and how I wouldn t be exaggerating when I say that In Search of Neverland is now on the list of my most f Michael Jackson was one of the most brilliant men I have ever known in my entire life He was certainly not the Wacko Jacko portrayed in the media, and it s unfortunate that he was so unfairly described He was so thoughtful and decisive as a client, I m really thrilled to have been his real estate broker He is the only celebrity client that really knew exactly what he wanted where, when and how I wouldn t be exaggerating when I say that In Search of Neverland is now on the list of my most favorite Michael Jackson books This title is meant to be read within 1 2 hours because it s a slim volume 75 pages but I chose to read it as slowly as I could devouring around two pages daily to maximize the delightful experience.Gloria is extremely compassionate and passionate towards her client, Michael Jackson She s one of the few associates that were able to see him as what he really was a very good human being and way ahead of his time Gloria was not only Michael s choice for a real estate agent but she happened to know the Jackson family way back as she was a neighbor to the family home in Encino. There are many little stories that reveals a part of Michael that is usually purposely ignored The stories she tells are about Jackson s main purpose of Neverland, his love for animals, his spirituality, his compassion, his fearlessness, his shrewdness andin depth his inner contentment and sense of humor.I wascomfortably enjoying it because I was not concerned about tabloid stories It was all positive, all for love and sincerity It is Jackson s journey to acquire his life dream ranch and it is written in a loving, humorous way. However, I noticed that there are few minor timeline errors but that s excusable because most of these events came from her own recollections and written down years after they ve happened but these errors are very, very few and do not concern the main purpose of the book.Although, this read is beautiful and delightful but I was left with an ache in my heart reading some parts of it Gloria shares with us a time when Michael was not yet beaten down by the hysterical media and the false allegations He was youthful, full of dreams ideas, adventurous and impulsive To look back at his journey, how he obtained his enchanting ranch, how he brilliantly upgraded it to a spectacular heaven on earth and then remember the time he was forced to leave it behind in 2005 and how now it is up for sale is just heartbreaking I believe that Michael Jackson is the strongest man ever because he took every beating and managed to still stand tall but the Michael that Gloria shares with us is before all the ugliness that they made him go through. All in all, this book gave methan I thought I d get from it I only regret that it is very small, I kept wantingandIt is one of the cutest and most sincere reads on Michael Jackson I surely recommend it to every MJ fan and to those who seek to knowabout his real personality and the purpose behind his Neverland Ranch beyond the falsehood that the corrupted media reported In a world filled with inaccurate books on my beloved Michael, I mthan glad to find this gem and I know you will, too. These books are suitable to be read as a followup to Gloria s book to enhance the experience 1 Maker of Dreams Creating Michael Jackson s Neverland Valley Park 2 Private Conversations in Neverland with Michael Jackson

Gloria Rhoads Berlin s little book on the discovery and purchase of the ranch that would become Michael Jackson s Neverland is her personal experience of knowing and working with Michael as his real estate agent. But she knew him and his family long before that, and was a near neighbour to the Jackson family home in Encino where Michael lived up to the time he bought his dream ranch. There are some charming anecdotes, some lovely quotes attributed to Michael, and overall this is a simple but lovin Gloria Rhoads Berlin s little book on the discovery and purchase of the ranch that would become Michael Jackson s Neverland is her personal experience of knowing and working with Michael as his real estate agent. But she knew him and his family long before that, and was a near neighbour to the Jackson family home in Encino where Michael lived up to the time he bought his dream ranch. There are some charming anecdotes, some lovely quotes attributed to Michael, and overall this is a simple but loving account of what was obviously a seminal experience in the lives of both Gloria and Michael. This book can be read as a prelude to a similarly slim but insightful volume by one of Michael s neighbours, William B Van Valin II MD Private Conversations in Neverland with Michael Jackson Reviewed here The purchase of Neverland was Michael Jackson s chance to live on his own away from other members of his family to have the space for his beloved animals to build his own amusement park and to play host to sick and underprivileged kids.Gloria talks of the spiritual side of Michael and of praying with him at the ranch She talks of his belief in the healing power of music She also tells of his confessions of loneliness when on tour his striving to excel at his craft, and his love for children but fears then that he may never father his own.In some cases Ms Berlin s timeline of events seems to be a little out of sync like the elephant she mentions that Michael owned which was a gift from Elizabeth Taylor She mentions it in connection with his menagerie at the Encino property yet he did not receive this gift until he had lived some time at Neverland. She also mentions that the last time she saw Michael at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles was about three years before he passed She writes that she wondered how he was doing at Neverland but I never had a chance to ask him Only, of course, Michael hadn t been at Neverland since the conclusion of his highly publicized trial in 2005, and in fact, had been living overseas since then He didn t return to the US until December 2006, when he attended James Brown s funeral service. However, I think Gloria can be excused for these minor errors, given that these are her recollections, straight from her memory and written down after a period of years had elapsed The spirit and intention of giving an impression of Michael as she knew him, and what the ranch meant to him, are the important aspects of this book, and in these she has certainly succeeded. It doesn t take long to read In Search of Neverland and despite Gloria s lightweight chatty narrative style, the contents will live on in the reader s memory like the most exquisite perfume that lingers in the air long after the wearer has left the room. But then, we ve come to expect nothing less of Michael.Review by Kerry Hennigan10 Sept 2014

Interesting book glad I read it, as it seemed to provide a realistic glimpse of Michael at the time of his search for and purchase of his first home purchase Neverland You get an idea of what it was like to hang out with him in a relaxed, low pressure environment, and what he, as a human being, was like what he got excited about, what his concerns were, how he interacted with people in a non show business context My research of Michael to this point has taught me to, from the outset, exa Interesting book glad I read it, as it seemed to provide a realistic glimpse of Michael at the time of his search for and purchase of his first home purchase Neverland You get an idea of what it was like to hang out with him in a relaxed, low pressure environment, and what he, as a human being, was like what he got excited about, what his concerns were, how he interacted with people in a non show business context My research of Michael to this point has taught me to, from the outset, examine the motivation of authors, reporters, commentators, and other sources of information to determine their motivation and perspective, and judge if it s at all compromised by this and or supported by strong documentation evidence In the case of this book, my first impression was that it was yet another person with connections to Michael trying to cash in The appearance of the book not very thick, large text, covered with pictures of the author with Michael and the continual bragging of the author that Michael was always hugging, that they were so close, that she would just drop by random recording sessions and then chat with Michael, that she and Michael just the two of us would drive away and stay together for a week at a ranch made it a little challenging to get past this idea of cashing in I also found it slightly odd that she kept referring to her friend, Michael, as Michael Jackson, even after she had established who she was talking about However, the realistic glimpse into Michael as a human being and his joy eventually allowed me to consider and at least partially accept the idea that the author was actually just wanting to share her story, feel connected to Michael a friend she cherished again, and maybe share these stories she and only she could share that might illuminate Michael s true nature with fans desperate for any and all true, first hand knowledge of this amazingly talented and creative individual That being said, I would like to thank the author for sharing Each and every one of these honest reflections retellings of interactions with Michael help fans and researchers piece together what he was like as a human being, artist, business man, showman, etc And now, regrettably, these are now the best resources we have available, since we can no longer attempt or aspire to meeting and interviewing the man himself

This is a slim, large print vanity published volume with some truly amazing and hilarious photoshop collage of MJ dancing in a crowd of animals on the cover created, probably on a PC, by the son of the author , but I received it fromwith excitement and hope anyway because I am an optimistic and open minded person, I suppose, and because I thought any book that combined two of my biggest obsessions Michael Jackson and real estate HAD to be fabulously entertaining I was wrong T This is a slim, large print vanity published volume with some truly amazing and hilarious photoshop collage of MJ dancing in a crowd of animals on the cover created, probably on a PC, by the son of the author , but I received it fromwith excitement and hope anyway because I am an optimistic and open minded person, I suppose, and because I thought any book that combined two of my biggest obsessions Michael Jackson and real estate HAD to be fabulously entertaining I was wrong This book is childish in its poor writing, poor editing, poor typographical design and poor photographs The dialog the author recalls sounds pretty much made up The conversations depicted herein probably did actually happen in some form, and the author certainly did have a unique connection with MJ, but the gushing tone throughout just seems inappropriate and makes me sort of uncomfortable, like I ve stumbled into some poor old lady s fantasy world Since I m actually interested in the ranch, I appreciated the few details she gave about the property layout, appearance of the grounds, number of bedrooms, bathrooms and offices, etc I was expecting much , since that would be the thing she s actually qualified to talk about, but instead we get a lot of glowing, gushing speeches that Michael supposedly made about loving the children of the world and wasn t he such a great guy Yes, I agree he was a great guy and all, but you re a real estate agent and I was actually hoping you d tell me all about the antiques that were purchased with the house and why the previous owner needed to sell all his art and furnishings, too all we know is that he sold because he was getting divorced , and how it was all valued, and of course I want to knowabout the secret passages and moving walls that the house had Pretty much everything I read this book to learn was glossed over Extremely disappointing If you were hoping for photos and or info about Neverland, I can only direct you to this excellent issue of Architectural Digest

I was surprised to read in the author s bio that she s a former journalist, because the writing quality is extraordinarily bad The dialogue is especially terrible and sounds nothing like MJ The book jumps from one story to another with no apparent organization and doesn t tell anything about Michael that fans didn t already know She s also contradicted some of the things she says here in interviews She seems like someone who is exaggerating her relationship with him to cash in on his death I was surprised to read in the author s bio that she s a former journalist, because the writing quality is extraordinarily bad The dialogue is especially terrible and sounds nothing like MJ The book jumps from one story to another with no apparent organization and doesn t tell anything about Michael that fans didn t already know She s also contradicted some of the things she says here in interviews She seems like someone who is exaggerating her relationship with him to cash in on his death At least the poorly written stories paint a positive picture of him
